WELCOME
Shivanand College, established in the year June 1967 at the pious hands of His Holiness Vedant
Kesari Shri Mallikarjun Mahaiwamiji of Shivanand Math Gadag, is a first grade College affiliated
to Karnatak University, Dharwad and managed by Shri Mallikarjun Ashram Trust, Kagwad.
This is the Prime Educational Institute in the rural area in Belgaum District on the borders
between Karnataka and Maharashtra States. It is a rural area mostly populated by poor
peasants. It was the teaching of Vedant Kesari Shri Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji which kindled the
thirst for higher learning among the citizens of Kagwad and those of the neighbouring villages. It
was the goodwill and passion for education of His Holiness that inspired these people to
contribute their mite towards the establishment of this institution. The selfless efforts of some
leaders of the town, the generous donations given by the small and big landlords alike and the
heavenly inspiration and guidance of His Holiness Vedant Kesari Shri Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji
have made this college a temple of learning. Shivanand College, ever since its inception, has been
catering to the needs of higher education in this part of the country.
