About the Institution
A college founded to extend higher education to rural communities.
ESTABLISHED IN 1967
A temple of learning on the Karnataka–Maharashtra border.
Shivanand College, Kagwad, was established in June 1967 through the vision and blessings of His Holiness Vedant Kesari Shri Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji of Shivanand Mutt, Gadag.
The college is a first-grade institution affiliated with Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, and managed by Shri Mallikarjun Ashram Trust, Kagwad. It serves a predominantly rural region of Belagavi district near the Karnataka–Maharashtra border.
The teachings of Shri Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji inspired a desire for higher learning among the people of Kagwad and neighbouring villages. Community leaders, farmers and landlords contributed generously to establish an institution that could make college education accessible in this rural area.
Since its inception, the college has worked to meet the educational needs of the region. It is housed in its own building on the Sangli–Bijapur Road and provides academic facilities, including a well-equipped library.
The institution aims to educate rural students so that they become responsible citizens of sound moral character. It encourages simplicity, piety, disciplined study and hard work.
The college was named after Shri Shivanand Swamiji of Gadag, the Guru of His Holiness Vedant Kesari Shri Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji.
