About the College

Equal opportunity, rural education and a tradition of service.

OUR COLLEGE

Serving the educational needs of rural communities since 1967.

Shivanand College, Kagwad, was founded in June 1967 by His Holiness Vedant Kesari Shri Mallikarjun Mahaswamiji. The college is affiliated with Rani Channamma University, Belagavi—formerly Karnataka University, Dharwad—and is managed by Shri Mallikarjun Ashram Trust, Kagwad.

The college was established to provide equal opportunities for higher education to poor and socially disadvantaged students from rural communities. The teachings, guidance and benevolent care of Mahaswamiji inspired the people of Kagwad and neighbouring villages to support this mission.

The guidance of H.H. Dnyanyogi Shri Siddheshwar Mahaswamiji, together with the sustained efforts of philanthropists and community leaders, helped the institution grow into a centre of learning.

The college offers undergraduate education in Arts and Commerce and provides students with a choice of optional subjects. Its campus supports curricular and extracurricular activities and includes a library with a substantial collection, computer facilities and student-development organisations.

Student life is strengthened through NCC, NSS, Youth Red Cross, Scouts and Guides, academic committees and cultural activities. The institution seeks to combine knowledge, character, discipline and social responsibility.
